Mortal Shell 2 Mushroom Village Guide: Keys, Chests, Offerings, and Beacons

Quick Answer

Chest: Light the three Offering candles near the central chest.
Reward: Auspicious Stone, a Support Tarstone associated with melee critical-hit potential.
Keys: The chest does not require the Cage Key or Chapel Key. Some earlier guides call the Chapel Key the “Mushroom Village Key.”

Mushroom Village Chest: How to Open It

The chest is in the main village square. An Offering is one of the nearby candles: light all three, then return to the chest. No key is required.

All Three Offering Locations

All three candles are close to the chest. You do not need to leave Mushroom Village.

Offering 1: Behind the Chest

From the chest, face the raised wooden platform behind it. Walk onto the platform and check the stone pedestal area.

Offering 2: Up by the Houses

Return toward the square and take the rising path beside the village houses. Follow the upper route around the building and check the nearby corner.

Offering 3: Near the Archway

From the second Offering, continue around the house and follow the path toward the archway. The final Offering is near the archway.

Light it, then return to the central square and interact with the chest again.

What You Get From the Chest

The Mushroom Village Offering Chest contains the Auspicious Stone.

It is a Support Tarstone associated with melee critical-hit potential. Whether to use or upgrade it depends on your Shell, weapon, and available resources.

Mushroom Village Key and Chapel Key

Some earlier guides call this item the Mushroom Village Key, while newer launch coverage refers to it as the Chapel Key. This guide uses “Chapel Key” for the newer terminology.

The key is near the Mushroom Village Beacon, close to the area with the witches and bonfire. A stone arch changes what is visible; move through it and look for the revealed statue.

The Chapel Key opens the Chapel or Shrine of Trials route, which is connected to the Axe & Dagger weapon path. It is not needed for the Offering Chest.

Cage Key vs Chapel Key

These keys solve different problems:

Key Use
Cage Key Opens the village cage
Chapel Key Opens the Chapel / Shrine of Trials route

Do not spend time trying to use the Cage Key on the central Offering Chest. The chest is opened by lighting the three candles.

Mushroom Village Beacon vs Mushroom Village Gate Beacon

These are two different locations:

Beacon Role
Mushroom Village Beacon Beacon inside the village
Mushroom Village Gate Beacon Beacon near the village entrance and the Glutted Mire route

Do not count the Gate Beacon as the Beacon inside the village when tracking progression.

How to Reach Mushroom Village Gate Beacon

From Mushroom Village, follow the route toward the village entrance and the large gate leading toward Glutted Mire. The Gate Beacon is near this entrance area. The route continues through the Hall of Illusions and includes the encounter with Vrannic, the Grand Illusionist. Watch for the hidden wall or passage that opens the way forward.

Record Mushroom Village and Mushroom Village Gate as two separate Beacon entries.

If the Chest Still Says Offerings Are Missing

Known launch-build issue: Some players report that the candles appear lit while the chest still says that Offerings are missing.

Try the following low-risk checks:

  1. Walk around the village and confirm that all three candles were actually interacted with.
  2. Leave the area and return to the chest.
  3. Quit to the main menu and reload the game.
  4. On PC, use the platform’s file-verification option if the problem continues.

These checks may not fix every version-specific problem. If the counter remains incorrect after a reload, treat it as a possible game bug rather than searching for a fourth Offering.

Common Mistakes

  • Treating Mushroom Village Beacon and Mushroom Village Gate Beacon as the same location.
  • Assuming the central chest needs the Cage Key or Chapel Key.
  • Searching for a fourth Offering when the chest requires three.
  • Finding two candles and overlooking the platform behind the chest or the archway route.
  • Treating a launch-build chest bug as proof that another candle is hidden elsewhere.
  • Confusing the Cage Key with the Chapel Key.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Offering Chest need a key?

No. Light the three nearby Offering candles instead.

What is the difference between Cage Key and Chapel Key?

The Cage Key opens the village cage. The Chapel Key opens the Chapel or Shrine of Trials route.

Are Mushroom Village Beacon and Mushroom Village Gate Beacon the same?

No. They are separate Beacon locations: one is inside the village and the other is near the village entrance and Glutted Mire route.

What if the chest still says Offerings are missing?

Confirm all three candles, leave and re-enter the area, then reload from the main menu. On PC, you can also verify the game files; the issue may be a launch-build bug.
